Lightning and the data bus

I have been having a bit of trouble with surges taking out my M1G. I think I have narrowed the cause input down to the data bus lines that run between to buildings on my property. The buildings are on separate power meters (and power grids) which may be part of my problem. Is there a simple surge suppressor that can be added on the data bus line?

Thanks

I honestly dont have a good answer, for you besides to contact ELK directly. But you might be able to use a set of RS485 to fiber optic converters

I have seen a couple of the posts on RS485 to fiber units but there have been speed issues brought up about them. I am hoping for a simple in line solution.

the only problem (which may not be a problem for you) is that it looks to only be spec'd to 7.5 vdc which will not allow passing the 12 VDC across it

You may still be able to use it. Run the black, green, and white wires out and not the red. Use an aux power supply in the out building and common hte black wires.

It should work but I have not tried it.
